SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Dec. 04, 2001 — Legacy Electronics announced today that its 1-GB, 200-pin SDRAM DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module), based on its patented Canopy® technology, successfully completed rigorous testing required by SGI (NYSE: SGI), and is exclusively approved for use on the Silicon Graphics® Octane-2™ visual workstation. An important part of the strategic SGI™ line-up of visual workstation products, Octane-2™ supports up to 8 GB of total memory, significantly enhancing the products performance in high-end graphics applications.
"The purchase agreement calls for Legacy Electronics to supply its high-density memory solution to SGI, effective immediately. The Canopy® technology DIMM has the combination of performance, reliability and low cost we need to meet customers' expectations with our high-performance Octane-2™ systems," said Alain Ishiguro, Memory Global Commodity Manager at SGI. "We chose the Legacy Canopy® high-density solution after investigating the technologies offered by other suppliers."
To reach approval and qualification by SGI, the Legacy SDRAM Dual In-Line Memory Modules had to pass extreme temperature, shock and vibration tests. Legacy believes this qualification process further confirms the reliability of Canopy® and the DRAM technologies.
